The Vasarely Museum as a part of the Museum of Applied Arts was opened in 1987. This is the richest Vasarely Collection all around East-Middle Europe. In the 80’s Victor Vasarely himself donated the whole collection to the Hungarian State.Victor Vasarely (Hungarian: Győző Vásárhelyi) was a worldwide famous Hungarian-French painter and graphic artist, also known as the co-establisher and the most remarkable artist of the Op-Art. His set of figures and shapes used for his works is unique, it includes kinetic effects and optic phenomena as well. The collection consists of 400 works of art (advertisement graphics, Op-Art works, works from the world of statuette), which gives an extensive overview about the works of the master’s life. The Museum is situated in the Danube-Wing of the Castle Zichy, in the eldest part of the capital, in Óbuda; the building was constructed in the 17th century. The Family Zichy was an ancient and rich noble family in Hungary; their ancestors are still alive.

A Szépművészeti Múzeum Vasarely Múzeuma, amely Közép-Kelet-Európában a leggazdagabb Vasarely-gyűjteménnyel rendelkezik, 1987-ben nyitotta meg kapuit. A múzeum gyűjteményét a 80-as években maga a művész adományozta az államnak. A múzeum, a Duna partján, Budapest legrégebbi városrészében, Óbudán, a Zichy család 17. századi kastélyában ad otthont a kiállításnak. A Zichy család ősi, gazdag főnemesi család Magyarországon, amelynek leszármazottai még ma is élnek.
