Das Kunsthaus ist ein sehr außergewöhnliches Museum. Es wird nicht nur zeitgenössische Kunst ausgestellt, sondern das Kunsthaus ist auch wegen seines Gebäudes zu bewundern. Mitten in der Grazer Altstadt ragt dieses unübersehbare blaue Gebäude hervor. Es sieht wie eine riesige blaue Blase aus und wirkt ziemlich fremd inmitten der anderen alten Gebäude dieser Stadt.
Deshalb wird das Kunsthaus auch gerne „Friendly Alien“ genannt. Auf einem gläsernen Erdgeschoss schwebt die blaue Blase, in der sich viele Ebenen (Spaces) zum Ausstellen der Kunst befinden. Die Fassade des Kunsthauses ist auch sehr beachtenswert. Sie besteht aus Acrylglas aus dem sogenannte Nozzles mit Tageslichtöffnungen herauswachsen. Eine dieser Nozzles ist direkt auf den Uhrturm, das Wahrzeichen von Graz, gerichtet. Die Außenhaut besteht außerdem noch aus der Brix- Fassade, die durch kreisförmige Lichter die Außenwand der Blauen Blase beleuchten. Die Needle ist mit einem Balkon auf dem „Friendly Alien“ zu vergleichen. Sie ist rundum verglast und man hat dort einen wunderschönen Ausblick auf Graz. Ein weiterer Teil des Kunsthauses ist das Eiserne Haus, die älteste Gusseisenkonstruktion Mitteleuropas. Dieser historische Teil wurde behutsam renoviert.
The Kunsthaus is really an extraordinary museum. It exhibits not only temporary art, but is also admired because of its unexceptional building. The Kunsthaus is located in the middle of the historic district in Graz. It looks like a big blue bubble which seems a bit strange in contrast to the other old buildings. That’s the reason why it is also called Friendly Alien.
Above the glassy ground floor floats the big blue bubble, in which you find four spaces for exhibitions. The face of the buil ding is ade of acrylic glass with nozzles with daylight openings; through one of these you have a wonderful view of the Uhrturm, the town’s landmark. The face of the Kunsthaus also consists of the BRIX- façade, which illuminates the external wall. The Needle can be compared to a balcony on top of the blue bubble. It is made of glass and from there you have a beautiful view of large parts of the city. Another part of the Kunsthaus is the historic building made of iron, which has been restored very cautiously.
