Auf dem heutigen Sitz des Museums befand sich in der ersten Hälfte des 19. Jhs., noch während des Königreichs Neapel, eine Werkanlage zur Herstellung von Lokomotiven und Wagen.
Dann wurde es zum ersten und ältesten nationalen Eisenbahnmuseum in Italien.
Ausgestellt sind hier alte und neuere Lokomotiven und Waggons. Die älteste Dampflokomotive, die hier zu sehen ist, eine Bayard, war 1839 zwischen Neapel und Portici im Dienst, das ist die erste Eisenbahnstrecke Italiens überhaupt. In Portici befand sich eine sehr beliebte Sommerresidenz des Königs (die „Reggia“ von Portici).
Das Museum plant die Installierung von interaktiven Tools, die ganz besonders für die jüngeren Besucher gedacht sind.
In the first half of the 19th century, when the kingdom of Naples also existed, in the actual museum there was a workshop for building and repairing locomotives and wagons.
Lately it was transformed in the first and oldest national railway museum in Italy.
There ancient and latest wagons and locomotives are shown. The oldest steam locomotive that you can admire, a Bayard, was on duty in 1839 between Naples and Portici, the first railway made in Italy. One of the best-loved summer residences of the Royal house (The Royal house of Portici).
Actually the Museum is being restored, for the next reopening is foreseen the installation of multimedia tools thought particularly for young audience.
Nella prima metà del XIX, quando ancora esisteva il Regno di Napoli, nell’attuale sede del museo si trovava un’officina per la costruzione e riparazione di locomotive e carrozze.
Venne poi trasformata nel primo e più antico museo nazionale ferroviario d’Italia.
Sono qui esposti vagoni e locomotive antichi e più recenti. La più antica locomotiva a vapore che si può ammirare, una Bayard, fu in servizio nel 1839 fra Napoli e Portici, la prima tratta ferroviaria realizzata in Italia. A Portici si trovava una delle più amate residenze estive della casa regnante (la Reggia di Porti- ci).
Il museo è attualmente in fase di ristrutturazione, per la prossi- ma riapertura è prevista l’istallazione di tool multimediali pen- sati particolarmente per il pubblico dei giovani.
